A selective guide to the month's essential endeavours, and exactly where you’ll find me.

THE THEATRE I’m starting my cultural need this month at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, where a fresh adaptation of “My Brilliant Career” takes the stage. Apparently Sybylla Melvyn’s refusal of the domestic routine remains at the forefront so is right in my wheelhouse. Later in the month, I’ll be getting into the existential eco-thrillers with “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.” Adapted from Olga Tokarczuk’s Nobel-winning novel, this is a dark comedy production that is hopefully a masterclass in "atmospheric" tension.

NIGHT LIFE My evenings are well booked with a mix of turn-of-the-millennium musical release and acoustic comedowns. I'll be catching the hip-hop pioneers De La Soul, who always manage to remind a crowd that three remains the magic number. Right on their heels, I'm off to see the legends Basement Jaxx, followed shortly by the sweeping electronica of Faithless. This will definitely test my stamina so I will be doing lots of resting. For a gentler landing, I've circled dates for the indie-folk of Blanco White and the quiet confessionals of Sydney Rose.

THE SCREEN I'll be treating myself to hopefully some great cinema with “How to Make a Killing.” It’s about a blue-collar outcast ruthlessly reclaiming his inheritance. For something more cosmic scale, I’ve got my sights on the adaptation of Andy Weir’s “Project Hail Mary.” And then some continental art-house elegance, I’ll be seeing “La Grazia.”

SPORTS For a different kind of theatre, I’ll be splitting my experiencing a few codes. The basketball drama as the Sydney Kings enter the NBL Semi-Finals. On the turf I’ll be watching the Roosters clash with Parramatta in a NRL grudge match, and catching the Waratahs as they look to defend Allianz Stadium against the visiting Blues (who I am supporting).

ABOVE & BEYOND The city streets transform early in the month during the annual Greek Festival for some overdue bouzouki. I will also be hitting the streets for some Street Photography Workshop with tutor Glenn Lockitch’s; I’m looking forward to taking the Fujifilm X-T5 out for a proper spin among the crowds.

Back in the domestic sphere, navigating the modern cyber-thicket is a relentless trial, so I’ll be sitting in on the ySafe Education sessions to gather some much-needed strategy for shepherding my two daughters through the digital landscape. To scrape see what its like to completely remove the noise, I’m retreating to the Buddha Blue Mountains for a rigorous Silent Meditation—a necessary return to Zen principles and quiet minimalism.

Finally, I’m bringing the energy back home. I’ll be looking to host a gathering at the house on a weekday in an experiment to try and build some more community. More details on this will be revealed shortly, but watch this space.
